Fruity February

Consuming more fruit and vegetables is a hot topic this February, and here at Stripy Fig we are making sure our children get at least one more portion of fruit or veg a day.

With fruit and vegetable ‘Prescription’ trials as part of the Governments Levelling up agenda and the return of ‘Eat Them do Defeat Them’ campaign, which many of you may have seen during the adverts on ITV. As the collaboration of Veg Power and ITV are using advertising and a programme aimed at Primary School aged children to encourage children to eat more vegetables.

What’s your medicine?

The Governments ‘Levelling up’ white paper published on February 1st sets out a ‘Community Eat Well’ programme. Which enables GPs to prescribe exercise and healthy food.

The paper sets out a target to narrow the gap in life expectancy between local areas, where it is highest and lowest, by 2030.

UK ministers have offered to invest up to 5 million in a ‘school cooking revolution’ which would include new food content for the curriculum and bursaries for teacher training and support.

Fresh fruit and vegetable vouchers could also be given to families to help them eat more healthily. This ties in nicely with the Eat Them to Defeat Them campaign.

The Evil Veggies are Back!

Being a mum of two, I am faced with the mission to get my daughters to eat 5-a-day - which I can confess doesn’t actually happen very often, so I am relieved that I’ve got some extra backing out there from Veg Power.

Veg Power is an alliance of organisations and individuals all over the UK generously providing funding, free media, goods, and services. They are on a ten-year mission to turn around vegetable consumption in the UK.

The Mission - to get every kid in the UK eating one more portion of veg each day.

Good Luck @VegPowerUK – we at Stripy Fig love your fun ideas to get the children involved!
