British Food Fortnight

Updated: Sep 7, 2021

18th September – 3rd October

An event you are guaranteed to find in the calendars of those in the food industry.

If you haven’t heard about it by now you certainly won’t forget it next year.

British Food Fortnight is the national celebration of the diverse and delicious food that Britain produces, that takes place during harvest celebrations and this year marks its 20th year of the celebration.

To mark the event, activities are taking part across communities all over the country.

Locally to us in Shropshire we have the Ginger and Spice Festival, taking place on the 25th September.

Many schools have set up special school menus and have introduced foodie lessons over the celebration period.

You may also come across special menus in hospitals, care homes, universities and even the NHS Trusts are on board.

And with menu / food promotions in pubs, restaurants, Cafes, supermarkets, and farm shops, there’s really no way you can miss it.

How you can get involved.

It’s so easy to get involved yourself. Simply seek out British food when you go do your food shop. If you can shop locally at Butchers, farm shops and markets and look for foods in season, such as English Plums, marrows, and squashes.

For a full list of foods in season check out our What’s in Season When Blog.

Achievements

There are numerous achievements from running the event.

It is the 1st National campaign and celebration promoting British Food #Britishfoodisgreat.

The Love British Food brand is one of the most established food campaigns on the national calendar and is used to drive sales and consumer awareness in retailers and food service organisations. It is recognised as a proven catalyst in encouraging retailers and caterers to source more British Food.

The brand has delivered sales increases in major supermarkets and small independent businesses, one supermarket stocking the Love British promotions doubled in sales and sold out most days.

So many sectors are now involved, from schools, hospitals, pubs, villages and even a Zoo.

Celebrity baking from the likes of Raymond Blanc, Jonathan Ross, and Jamie Oliver just to name a few but the list is endless.

There’s so much more that I could discuss about this event, for more information visit the main website https://www.lovebritishfood.co.uk/ and I recommend if you are a producer passionate about your British Food and want to share what you can offer and how you offer it then you should become a Love British Food member.
